The Top India Survey Reveals Bollywood’s Biggest Struggle Is Behind the Scenes

When people think about Bollywood, they often picture celebrities, luxury lifestyles, glamorous events, and blockbuster movie promotions. However, a recent survey conducted by The Top India suggests that the real crisis in the entertainment industry is affecting the workers behind the camera.

The survey, which included responses from more than 1,000 people working across the entertainment sector, reveals that many industry professionals are facing serious financial and job-related challenges. A large number of workers reportedly said they are struggling to find consistent projects, while others claim their earnings have significantly reduced compared to previous years.

According to the findings, several respondents reported income drops of nearly 50 to 60 percent. The slowdown is reportedly impacting film productions, television shoots, OTT projects, and digital content creation across the industry.

The situation is affecting a wide range of professionals connected to movie and television production. Assistant directors, makeup artists, camera operators, lightmen, spot boys, costume assistants, junior artists, fitness trainers, and equipment rental providers are among those feeling the pressure of reduced work opportunities.

Industry workers say uncertainty has become one of the biggest concerns. In previous years, many professionals could rely on regular back-to-back projects throughout the year. Now, long waiting periods between assignments have reportedly become normal, with several productions facing delays or budget cuts.

Some freelancers and crew members also claim that payment cycles have become slower than before. Many workers reportedly wait several weeks or even months to receive payments after completing projects.

At the same time, the rising cost of living in Mumbai continues to create additional pressure. Since much of the entertainment industry operates around areas like Andheri, Juhu, and Bandra, workers often need to stay nearby despite increasing rental and daily living expenses.

For many people working in the industry, the concern is no longer only about career growth or bigger opportunities. The focus has shifted toward maintaining financial stability and managing day-to-day survival.

The survey by The Top India also highlights how interconnected the entertainment ecosystem has become. When fewer films, television shows, or digital productions begin shooting, the impact quickly spreads across hundreds of supporting roles connected to each project.

While Bollywood continues to attract worldwide attention for its glamour and entertainment value, many professionals working behind the scenes are currently navigating one of the industry’s most difficult phases in recent years.
